Yokohama Minato Mirai Festival (GREEN×EXPO 2027 Fireworks)

📍 Kanagawa, Yokohama

A one-night waterfront festival at Yokohama's Minato Mirai promoting the upcoming GREEN×EXPO 2027, combining live music and street performers with a large-scale fireworks finale over the harbor.

Yokohama’s Minato Mirai waterfront hosts frequent small fireworks shows throughout the year, but August 24, 2026 brings something bigger: a full festival built around promoting the city’s upcoming GREEN×EXPO 2027.

Why It’s Interesting

Rather than a standard hanabi night, this is billed as a full festival — live music and street performers along the harbor promenade building toward a large-scale fireworks finale over Yokohama Bay. It’s tied specifically to raising awareness for GREEN×EXPO 2027, the international horticultural exposition Yokohama will host the following year, which makes this a one-time-feeling event rather than a fixture you can count on repeating annually in the same form.

Best Time to Visit

The single date is Saturday, August 24, 2026, with the festival building through the evening to a fireworks finale.

Getting There

Five minutes on foot from Minato Mirai Station to Rinko Park, or about twelve minutes from Sakuragicho Station; expect heavy crowds along the whole waterfront that evening.

Field report

Yokohama threw a one-night waterfront party to warm up for GREEN×EXPO 2027, and I attended in my capacity as a professional of both fireworks and harbors: live stages and street performers along Minato Mirai through the evening, closing with a large-scale fireworks finale over the port.

The harbor gives Yokohama fireworks their signature — the Ferris wheel, the sail-shaped hotel, and the bay all take the light and hand it back doubled. I watched from a container crane's shoulder with the seagulls, who critique fireworks nightly and awarded this one their highest honor: silence.

Expo-adjacent festivals like this run on their own calendars — check dates rather than assume repeats. Get harborside early, ride the wheel after the crowds break, and let the city sell you on 2027. It sold me. I'm a cheap date: sky plus water, every time.
